Rabbit's Liver

The Rabbit’s Liver

MYTHOLOGY AND FOLKTALES

Once upon a time, the sea was ruled the dragon and the dragon king lived deep in the sea. The dragon fell ill and many doctors came to see what was wrong with him. They told him, he can only be cured by eating rabbit’s liver.

The dragon king immediately called a meeting and asked his advisors who is willing to the surface and to a rabbit for him. All the sea creatures, whales, fishes, jellyfish stayed quiet, no one wanted to go but suddenly a turtle stepped forward. He was willing to go in search of rabbit.

The turtle swam to the surface and looked around the beach, a ball of white jumping around was eye-catching, he realized it was a rabbit and approached him.

The turtle first confirmed his identity and told the rabbit that dragon king wanted to invite him to his palace in the sea, the rabbit excitedly agreed without hesitation. He wanted to visit the sea but he could not breath in the water, how would he go in the sea? The turtle asked him to not worry, he will take him with him and he will able to breath in the water.

The rabbit sat on the turtle’s back and looked around curiously as the turtle slowly dived into the water. Rabbit held his breath at first but when he open his mouth he was astonished; he could breathe in the water!

The rays of sun penetrate through the water surface, it felt like the green plants and algae were waving at everyone passing by with colourful fishes swimming across the sea. The turtle stopped in front of the huge castle.

Soon, the rabbit met the dragon and he realized he was not brought in the palace for a visit but as a sacrifice. The rabbit knew he has to think of a way to save himself fast. Instead of showing fear, he appeared regretful on the surface and told the dragon that he would have gladly helped him but since liver is one of his most important organs, he always keeps in inside the forest safely. To give him his liver, he would have to back to the surface and bring the liver.

The dragon believed him and was moved by his sacrifice; the king asked the turtle to send the rabbit back to the surface so he could fetch his liver. The turtle obeyed and took the rabbit back to the surface. As soon as they reached the beach, the rabbit quickly hoped the turtle’s back. He hopped towards the forest before stopping and turning back to tell the turtle he never kept his liver in the forest.

The turtle realized they have been lied to. The rabbit went back to the forest and successfully saved his life with his intelligence.
